Camp Philosophy
Our camp is built on one core idea: children learn chess best when they are engaged, supported, and having fun. We provide a positive environment where campers can think clearly, stay active, and enjoy meaningful chess time throughout the day.
Campers are grouped by age and playing level whenever group size allows. Beginners receive patient instruction in the foundations, while developing and advanced players work on strategy, tactics, decision-making, and guided play.
Chess instruction is balanced with supervised breaks and age-appropriate activities so campers can reset, socialize, and return ready to learn.
Camp Dates and Programs
- Camp dates are Friday, August 7, August 14, August 21, and August 28, 2026.
- Morning Half-Day runs from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and costs $60 per camper.
- Afternoon Half-Day runs from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM and costs $60 per camper.
- Full Day runs from 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM and costs $110 per camper.
- Morning and full-day arrival is from 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM.
- Morning pickup and afternoon arrival are from 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM.
- Afternoon and full-day pickup is from 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM.
- Each registration and payment covers one camper for one Friday only.
- A separate registration and payment are required for every additional Friday and for every additional child.
Health, Safety, and Supervision
- Parents must provide accurate emergency-contact, allergy, medical, behavioral-support, and care information during registration.
- Parents should provide any important updates to camp staff at arrival.
- Campers are expected to follow staff directions, treat others respectfully, and use the facility and chess equipment appropriately.
- Albany Chess Center may contact a parent or emergency contact if a camper becomes ill, is injured, requires additional support, or cannot safely continue participating.
- Parents or authorized adults are responsible for timely arrival and pickup according to the selected program hours.
- Morning and full-day campers should bring lunch and a refillable water bottle. Afternoon campers should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
- Registration is complete only after the camper form and full payment are received.
- All registrations are final after payment and space assignment.
- Cancellations made 10 or more days before the selected camp date are eligible for account credit only, minus a $35 administrative fee per camper.
- Cancellations made fewer than 10 days before the selected camp date are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- No refund or credit is issued for a missed camp, late arrival, early pickup, or a schedule change requested after the camp begins.
- If Albany Chess Center cancels a camp date, families may choose a full refund for that canceled date or a full account credit.
Registration and Payment Notes
- Select one camp date and one program on each registration form.
- The payment page must match the program selected on the registration form.
- A submitted form without completed payment does not reserve a camp space.
- Parents are responsible for confirming that the selected date, program, camper information, and payment are accurate.
